About RGN Nurse Jobs

If you know that you want to work as a nurse in the UK, there is a very clear route to RGN jobs. In order to become an RGN it is a requirement to obtain a pre registration degree in nursing. Once you have obtained this degree this will allow you registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and then the right to apply for nursing jobs. Without this qualification and NMC registration you'll be unable to find work as an RGN.

The first year of the pre registration degree is the CFP year, which is the Common Foundation Programme shared by all RGN Nurse students regardless of which specialism they choose to take up in the following two years. The specialist areas available are broken down in to four. These four areas are Adult Nursing, Paediatric Nursing (Children), Learning Disability Nursing and Mental Health Nursing.

The degree is broken down in to two sections, theory and practical, which will put student nurses in very good stead for their future career in nursing. There are a multitude of different roles that an RGN can take on and no two careers in nursing are the same. All have the ultimate goal, which is to provide care to anyone who needs it.

Registered General Nurses can find themselves in a variety of settings and roles. These healthcare settings and roles can include accident and emergency nurse jobs, Home care nurse jobs, Hospital nurse jobs, School nurse jobs, Prison nurse jobs, Care home nurse jobs and GP Practice nurse and practice nursing jobs. It is essential as an RGN Nurse that you possess good numeracy and literacy skills and that you are able to communicate in a caring and sympathetic manner with excellent observational ability. It is also imperative that you keep up to date with current healthcare issues and practice.

An RGN Nurse job in any of the four sectors mentioned will need to be one that embraces roles such as how to observe patients and assess their needs, plan and deliver the most appropriate care for them and evaluate the results. An RGN Nurse will be required to work alone as well as playing an integral part of a team. The patients will be of varying ages and have a multitude of needs from short term illness such as a hip replacement or injury due to an accident to long term illness such as cancer.

Nurses make up the majority of all healthcare professionals in the UK and hence play an integral part in the smooth and efficient running of the healthcare system in both the public and private sectors.
