About Prison Nurse Jobs
Prison nurse jobs require nurses who are devoted to giving a wide range of nursing services to large groups of adults in prisons. These inmates will need particular and challenging care, as it applies to such needs stemming from mental health issues and substance abuse problems.
Prison nurses who are candidates for the role of prison nurse jobs must possess a degree as a registered nurse. It would be greatly beneficial to the applicant to also be registered in the adult, learning disabilities and/or mental health fields.
The prison nurse, otherwise called a correctional nurse I or II, must be able to give nursing services that are appropriate for inmate safety and treatment. Such services prison nurse jobs offer are—
- Regular checkups
- Preventive procedures
- Diagnostic procedures
- Carrying out doctor’s orders
- Assisting physicians with sick calls
- Administers prescription medication
- Administers first aid care/surgical dressings and bandaging
- Observing symptoms and signs of inmates
- Observing any reaction to medications/treatments
- Observes physical/emotional condition of inmates
- Advising/supervising prison staff regarding care of inmate(s)
- Orders supplies
- Maintains medical records
