Description for Occupational Therapist Jobs
Occupational therapist jobs are available to you if you want to help meet the needs of a wide range of people, from children to the elderly who are disabled as a result from a birth defect, from a disease, from an accident or just from aging.
The occupational therapists role is to be able to knowledgeably assess and treat physical and mental conditions, using purposeful and planned activities to promote independence in daily living. An occupational therapist is different from a physical therapist in that the occupational therapist assists the individual with manipulative and coordination skills, such as grasping, dressing, ball tossing, etc. in repetition, while the physical therapist helps with exercise.
Patience is a great virtue to possess if you want to be a successful occupational therapist, along with being able to care for and work closely with any disabled individual.
The occupational therapist may work in hospitals, in personal homes or in various public settings, such as rehabilitation centers or nursing facilities.
Earning Your Degree as an Occupational Therapist In order to apply for occupational therapist jobs, you’ll have to earn your degree in occupational therapy, which is usually a 3 to 4 year degree, depending on if you are a full-time or part-time student.
