Nurse Specialist- ITU/Renal/CCU Band 6 Job, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire

Location: Cambridge - Cambridgeshire
Rate: £ 39.41 to £ 49.43 - Per Hour Monday - Sunday
Job Status: Temporary

ITU/HDU/CCU/Renal Unit – Critical Care

You will need 2 years post registration experience in any of the above plus you will need to evidence current practice in your area of specialism within the last 6 months

You will need:
- NMC Registration
- RN (Adult), RN1/RN2/RN (Child), RN8
- Intermediate life support

ITU:
- ENB 100or equivalent post registration course in intensive care/critical care nursing achieved through an institute of higher education (level 3)

RENAL:
- ENB 136 or equivalent post registration in Renal Care or critical care course or equivalent

CCU:
- Specialist post registration Cardio/thoracic course or critical care course

Preferable:

- Advanced Life Support
- Teaching and Assessing Qualification

Skills and abilities:

- Must be able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist nursing care programmes
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to relate within the interdisciplinary team and across other disciplines - Skills for assessing and interpreting acute and other patient conditions and taking action
- Able to advise patients and relatives
- Able to take charge of a team or manage a ward/department in the absence of the ward manager
- Ability to communicate sensitive, condition related information to patients and relatives with empathy and reassurance
- Competent and effective clinical nursing skills including: IV cannulation, IV Additives and administration or IV medicines
- Able to demonstrate safe use of patient equipment including infusion devices

Agency workers must have received appropriate training and assessment by the Authority where the assignment is taking place before being authorised to carry out these tasks at the authority.

ITU
• Ability to deliver the full range of care to a ventilated patient under indirect supervision
• Ability to record a 12 lead ECG
• Ability to sample from arterial access
• Able to care for ITU/HDU/dialysis patients under indirect supervision
RENAL
• Able to deliver a high standard of specialist nursing care for patients on renal dialysis and those within a Renal Department.
• Advanced renal skills (haemodialysis and plasma exchange)
• Capable of caring for Renal Transplant patients (immediately post-surgery and long term care) – according to the needs of the assignment
CCU
• Able to deliver a high standard of specialist nursing care within a Cardiothoracic department.
• Able to practice advanced cardiac skills eg in the event of a cardiac arrest able to lead advanced resuscitation for cardiothoracic patients following agreed protocols
• Safe and correct analysis of ECG/cardiac rhythm recognition
• Comprehensive knowledge of all cardiac drugs
