About Mental Health Nurse Jobs

To become a mental health nurse you’ll need to complete your nursing degree (or diploma) to gain your nursing qualification. Before finding work in the UK you’ll also need to register with the NMC, Nursing and Midwifery Council, to receive your PIN number. Only then can you work within registered nurse jobs.

Mental health nurse jobs aren’t easily summed up. As you’ll see on this page it can include, typically, care homes (caring for patients with dementia), through to mental health nurse jobs in the Army, in prisons, or in secure units. Mental health jobs is a large and ever-developing area of social care and health care in the UK. Mental health nurse jobs form part of that sector and themselves cover disparate areas of care and rehabilitation - from addictions to neuroses, disease and personality disorders.

Why choose mental health nursing jobs
Mental health nursing jobs forms one of the largest single categories of available jobs on Nurses.co.uk. If you’re looking for a career that will offer thousands of opportunities, this is it. What’s more, it still tends to be considered one of the least glamourous branches of nursing, meaning that mental health nursing jobs are not only plentiful, but usually not particularly competitive. This puts the mental health nursing jobseeker in a strong position.

NHS mental health jobs
On Nurses.co.uk you’ll find NHS mental health jobs for qualified and registered mental nurses. You’ll also see some jobs advertised by recruitment agencies looking for mental health nurses to fill temp jobs in NHS hospitals. Also, sometimes, you’ll find direct employers (such as Partnerships in Care, or St Andrew’s Healthcare) looking to recruit RMNs for jobs in their own hospitals and units, who are clients of the NHS. So, in many ways, Nurses.co.uk lists hundreds of NHS mental health jobs. Carefully browse each job, and be sure to ask questions on application about the nature of the job and the employer.

The role and its responsibilities are as much a product of the environment you’ll work in, as the specific mental health needs of the patients themselves. In short, mental nurse jobs at one NHS institution will be different to a position, still called ‘mental nurse jobs’ at another. Read the job ads, ask questions.

On another site, SocialCare.co.uk, you’ll be able to find a wider variety of mental health jobs. On this site, we try to restrict it to strictly nursing jobs in mental health care.

RMN Jobs
Beyond hospital settings and secure units, Care Home RMN Jobs require the mental nurse to deal with, often, very different client needs to RMNs working in an acute environment. Care homes themselves can offer care for many different needs, but commonly on Nurses.co.uk we see elderly care, and RMN jobs in dementia. But this isn’t exclusive. Learning disabilities patients, brain injury, rehabilitation and more complicated autistic spectrum disorders, or diseases such as Huntingdon’s, for instance, create very specialist RMN jobs.

While RMN jobs have, as explained, an unglamourous reputation as far as those outside of the industry are concerned, mental nurses have, arguably, the chance to explore the most interesting and varied of all branches of nursing.

Registered Mental Health Nurse Jobs
Registered mental health nurses, in whatever setting or care environment, commonly say the same positive things about their jobs: registered mental health nurse jobs are challenging, varied and very team oriented. You’ll be working alongside other specialist professionals - learning from social workers, consultants, pyschiatrists and clinical psychologists, and of course with patients who often have much to offer and give back.
