Midwives for regional Queensland services
We have a range of midwifery positions with our Hospital and Health Services located in:
- Central Queensland
- Torres and Cape
- Darling Downs
- North West Queensland
- Wide Bay
There are so many advantages to living and working in regional Queensland. You will make genuine connections with your local community and you and your family can create an active, different lifestyle at a gentler pace.
The positions available are located in a mix of large and smaller regional facilities and maternity centres. Depending on the role, you may be managing a case load within a midwifery group practice or providing services under an acute care multidisciplinary model of care with options for rotating across birth suite, ante and post-natal care.
This experience will be potentially a different one for you. It will of course have its ups and downs, however feedback from midwives who work in rural and regional centres say it is highly rewarding and an excellent way to develop your career.
We can offer you:
- top remuneration packages matched to your experience
- supportive workplaces to build your career
- free onsite parking at most workplaces
- access as a Private Practice Midwife to Queensland Health facilities
- generous leave loading and shift work penalty rates
- up to 12.75 per cent employer superannuation contribution.
We are looking for midwives who are confident in their abilities across the scope of midwifery practice and as a result will likely have at least five years’ experience.
In more rural locations you are likely to work across your full scope of midwifery practice. In some settings registration as a midwife and a nurse may be desired.
In some of our more remote communities, like Thursday Island, experience caring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, whilst not mandatory would be an advantage.
If you are not an Australian citizen or permanent resident, you will need to apply for a visa to work in Queensland. Under our visa system, Queensland Health may sponsor midwives with at least 5 years’ experience to live and work with their families temporarily in Queensland for up to 4 years. This allows your spouse or partner to work unlimited hours in the profession of their choice.
Apply now to join the Queensland Health regional and rural nursing talent community.
It will only take you a couple of minutes to join and we will connect you to opportunities in our regional midwifery services.
If a rural or regional move is not for you, then why not consider a role with one of our Hospital and Health Services based in Brisbane or the Gold or Sunshine Coasts. Search for roles here.
We look forward to hearing from you.
