    Job Description

    The Neonatal Matron will provide operational and clinical leadership to the team and support the Maternity and Neonatal Services Manager in developing the neonatal service. Highly visible and actively educating the nursing team, you will ensure that they have the skills to deliver the needs of the nursing service in a safe, efficient and effective way.

    The post holder will maintain a very high profile within the hospital in order to develop and maintain positive Consultant relationships and promote and enhance patient focused care.

    Salary between £55,594 per annum (depending on experience)

    Working hours 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday

    Duties:

    • Monitor and maintain standards of clinical practice
    • Lead care and demonstrate by example high standards of clinical care
    • Maintain personal contact with patients and relatives and assist staff in dealing with complaints
    • Provide leadership and support to the Maternity and Neonatal Services Manager and the nursing teams and act to as a role model
    • Share best practice and drive improvement in patient care
    • Support the Maternity and Neonatal Services Manager in developing the annual training needs analysis and practice development plan for the unit
    • Ensure the floor rosters meet the needs of the service and patient safety is maintained
    • Understand the principles of good workforce planning to meet department targets

    Skills:

    • NMC Registered with a valid RGN/ RM /RN.
    • First level degree or diploma in neonatal practice (QIS).
    • ENB 405/R23/A99
    • Mentoring and Assessment Course / ENB 998 equivalent
    • Broad experience relevant to the post
    • Evidence of ongoing professional development, at a minimum educated to degree level or equivalent
    • Demonstrable success in leading and delivering practice
    • Practice development and / or teaching experience

    • Well developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to motivate and enthuse individuals / teams
    • Organisational skills and ability to prioritise and delegate workload effectively
    • Ability to produce effective ways of working and improve service delivery
    • Commitment to improving patient care outcomes
    • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills
