Custody Nurse (RGN) / Custody Paramedic

£31,000 - £33,000 full time (2 days on, 2 nights on, 4 off)

1 part time nights role (2 nights on, 6 off)

Leicestershire (custody suites are all near Leicester)

Magnetic is working with a private provider of healthcare services to the police force across the UK, and we are seeking experienced, self-motivated Registered General Nurses or Paramedics who are used to working autonomously, to work as a Custody Nurse / Medic, being responsible for the assessment and treatment, referral and advice to detainees at various Essex police stations following their arrest. The main aim of a custody nurse is to ensure that the patient is medically safe to be detained, and assist with any forensic sampling where it is requested.

An extremely varied and interesting role with a quick turnover in the number of patients seen, we are seeking enthusiastic nurses who aren't phased by challenging or aggressive behaviour, patients with drug or alcohol problems, particularly nurses from an A+E, prison or forensic (primary care) background. 5 days training will be given at Head Office and you will have the opportunity to go on shadow shifts if successful.

The Custody Nurse / Paramedic post involves rapid assessment and treatment of the needs of the presenting detainees, including emergency care, chronic condition management, minor injuries, supporting and directing alcohol/drug rehabilitation, detoxification, forensic sample gathering etc. Patients will be referred to other services as appropriate, in consultation with Custody Unit Staff.

42 hours per week on average for full time. Shifts are 7-7 days and nights.

Full time roles are 4 on (2 days then 2 nights) then 4 off), part time is 2 shifts pw, and flexi/bank is per 12 hour shift.

Person specification

Registered Nurse (RGN, as the role has a medical bias) or HCPC registered Paramedic

At least 2 years post-qualification experience in a range of different settings, acute medical assessment skills are essential, A+E is ideal.

Must be able to take blood, will be trained on forensic aspects of the role

Strong clinical skills combined with a common sense approach

Valid UK Driving Licence essential, as well as own vehicle.

Ability to work days, nights and weekends.

UK or EU passports only, must be resident in the UK for at least the last 3 years to satisfy vetting requirements.
