About Suffolk OOH

We are recruiting for Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP) and Nurse Practitioners (NP) with Prescribing to join our team working for the OOH service in Suffolk. Suffolk OOH operates from a number of locations throughout Suffolk with their main base being located in Ipswich. The different locations enable you to work somewhere that is more local to you! The locations are:

•Bury PCC, West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds

•Haverhill PCC, Haverhill Health Clinic, Haverhill

•Mildenhall PCC, Mildenhall Health Centre, Mildenhall

•Eye PCC, Hartismere Hospital, Eye

•Sudbury Community Health Centre, Sudbury

•Ipswich PCC, Ipswich Hospital, Ipswich


•Stowhealth Centre, Stowmarket

About the role

This ANP post is to work with our fantastic team at Suffolk Out of Hours, to work shifts during the Service opening times of:

Monday–Friday - 18:30 – 08:00

Weekends and Bank Holidays - 24 hours

We offer flexibility in the shifts you will undertake, however we are looking in particular to cover the following times;

•Ipswich GP Base [... Click Apply...]every weekday evening

•Overnight GP shift in Bury on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday

•Overnight GP shift in Ipswich on Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday

•Overnight ANP/GP shift in Ipswich on Friday & Saturday (weeks 1, 2 & 4)

•Friday evenings generally hard to fill in all areas

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for delivering face-to-face and telephone services enabling patients to obtain health advice from the appropriate health care professional.

Ordering investigations and interpreting results, you will hold a Nurse Prescribing certificate and be competent to prescribe for patients and be responsible for providing an excellent standard of patient care and health promotion to the general public accessing urgent care services.

Take the lead role in the provision of Palliative care and other specialist nursing services within the unscheduled care environment.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in the role, you will have:


•Nurse-led management of minor illness, minor ailments and injuries

•Recent primary and community nursing experience

•Recent experience of face-to-face patient care

•Experience of patient contact services and / or primary care nursing

•Ability to think logically, to make decisions, cope with stress and work with all levels of staff

•Excellent communication skills

•Good listening skills

•To possess imagination and intuition

•To be confident in autonomous face-to-face patient interactions


•Experience of working independently within Nurse Practitioner / Specialist role

•Evidence of research or study into extended roles for nurses in primary care




•Degree level / Postgraduate level ANP Qualification

•Evidence of recent study (PREP)

•Recognised Non-Medical Independent Prescribing Qualification

•Postgraduate Teaching/ Mentorship Course e.g. ENB 998


•Level 3 - Face to face Child Protection training (within last 3 years) and Level 1 e-Learning in the years in between (Safeguarding Board requirement)


•Further professional qualification e.g. District Nurse (DN) / Health Visitor (HV)

•Immediate Life Support (ILS)/ Advanced Life Support (ALS)

Additional Information

This is a flexible role where we can offer shifts to suit your needs and lifestyle. Dependent on experience and shifts worked the salary for this role is from £32.50 p/hour - £42.50 p/hour.
