About Intravenous Therapies Nurse Jobs

The intravenous therapies IV nurse jobs available on Nurses.co.uk are posted by recruitment agencies and employers.

IV nurses, also referred to as infusion or intravenous nurses, work with patients in a variety of settings who require infusion for disease or illness. Intravenous nurses provide care by administering fluids, blood & blood components, pharmacological agents, nutritional solutions and pain medications through injections into patients' veins, or by maintaining arterial catheters or tubing. Intravenous nurses work in hospitals, hospices, primary care centres and in some cases in people’s own homes and GP surgeries.

Many medications are administered intravenously, whether because they can't be given orally or because they need to circulate through the bloodstream at a steady level. Intravenous nurses must also understand the effects of drugs administered through an IV and work hard to keep the line free from infection and complications. Intravenous nurses generally have already qualified as registered general nurses but have pursued additional certifications to enable them to specialise in Intravenous therapies and therefore take positions in IV Therapies jobs.

In order to work in an IV therapies job it is common to have the CRNI qualification, Certified Registered Infusion Nurse. In order to pass this qualification it is essential to have a minimum level of infusion experience and pass a standardised competency exam.
